The 5.333 kilometre circuit was designed by the planet’s currently best-established racetrack architect, Herman Tilke from Aachen, Germany, who has also designed Malaysia’s and Bahrain’s new GP circuits.
The ‘Istanbul Park’s’ layout with its track width ranging between 14 and 21.5 metres is a truly generous one, and its left- (eight) and right-handers (six) perfectly blend with the undulating environment. This makes for a varied track profile with a maximum incline of 8.145 percent, with the 655.5-metre start-finish straight representing the fastest section of the circuit for the DTM cars of Audi, Mercedes-Benz, MG and Opel.
And while the track perfectly blends with its surrounding, the buildings around the circuit reflect the Turkish culture just as well. The grandstand for 25.000 visitors is an example of the oriental architecture, and the pit facilities with its 33 garages, too.
Rifat Hisarciklioglu, Chairman of the organisers, the MSO, explained: “We are honoured by the fact that DTM, the most popular international touring car series, is going to contest a round in Turkey. This is a proof of the fast motor racing development in our country. We will provide the spectators and the teams with a great race weekend and a unique atmosphere.”
